Eli Whitney

Eli Whitney was born in Westboro. He invented the cotton gin, a machine that separated seeds from fibers of the cotton plant. Eli went to get it patented but he was turned down. The cotton gin was an amazing invention. It was the first of it’s kind. Before the cotton gin, the process of cotton picking and producing was done by hand by hard working, underpaid men. This cotton gin changed the future of cotton. Without the gin cotton might not be used as much today as it is. Whitney faught hard in order to get the gin patented. Without him and his invention, the cotton industry could have gone under. I think that everybody who has used or will use cotton should think about the man who made it all possible, Eli Whitney.

Eli Whitney went to the now famous Yale. But with he did not invent a cotton gin because he went there. He was a wise man anyways. It takes a lot of hard thinking and preperation to invent something as usefull and complex as the cotton gin. I think that his story should serve as an example for all kids, an example that if you put your mind to it and your heart and soul in it, pretty much anything is possible, no matter what difficulties you go through.

So, why is Eli Whitney an important person in history? Well, he invented the cotton gin, one of the most important machines of his time and a machine that led to the cotton market boom. He is a good example that if you try and try again, almost anything is possible.
